Whether you’re interested in exploring the area’s role in America’s history, enjoying outdoor recreational activities, or want to learn more about what’s happening in surrounding communities, our knowledgeable staff is here to guide you. With informative exhibits and displays and a welcoming atmosphere, the Champlain Canal Region Gateway Visitor Center is the perfect starting point for your next adventure. Come and immerse yourself in the stories and landscape that defines this unique part of New York.

The building is a beautifully crafted timber frame structure, inspired by the architectural stylings of a Dutch Barn, similar to what would have once stood on the property of the nearby Schuyler House. Completed with the expertise of the Timber Framers Guild and with the help of numerous community volunteers, the building seamlessly blends historical charm with modern amenities. Large windows allow natural light to flood the interior, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The result is a stunning facility that serves as a welcoming gateway to the Champlain Canal region.

Two owls are perched on a tree. Above them are the words "Grassland Bird Trust," and below them are the logos for Grassland Bird Trust, Hudson Crossing Park, and the Gateway Visitor Center.

Please join us at the Gateway Visitor Center for a special presentation by the Grassland Bird Trust (GBT), a nonprofit land trust working to protect and conserve critical habitat for some of New York State’s most vulnerable birds.

Learn about the rich history and important mission of the GBT as they work to safeguard the 102,000-acre Washington County Grasslands—home to endangered, threatened, and rapidly declining species like the Short-eared Owl, Northern Harrier, American Kestrel, Eastern Meadowlark, and Bobolink.

Following a brief history of the organization, the presentation will explore what’s being done to protect these remarkable birds and the grassland ecosystems they call home. Come discover how you can be part of the movement to save New York’s grassland birds—before they vanish.

This event is free and open to the public.

The visitor center is wheelchair accessible. Please email info@hudsoncrossingpark.org with any accessibility questions or visit www.HudsonCrossingPark.org/accessibility for more information.
