2024 Winter On the Canals Program at Hudson Crossing Park

Hudson Crossing Park is thrilled to once again offer free programs on the Champlain Canal thanks to the New York State Canal Corporation’s On the Canals Program. These excursions offer participants the opportunity to experience just some of the adventures that await them along the New York Canal System at absolutely no cost.

Capturing Winter On The Canals

Experience the transformation of familiar landscapes as winter blankets Hudson Crossing Park and the Champlain Canal in snow and icy beauty. This hands-on program invites participants to explore the art of photography using their smartphones, guided by a local photographer.

This class will highlight basic photography techniques, helping participants capture and share the beauty in everyday moments. It will also include a discussion on how to use social media positively to share their images and promote the area's charm. With an open discussion format, attendees can ask questions, share ideas, and connect with fellow photography enthusiasts.

Group size is limited to 10 per workshop.

Fire and Ice: Winter Stargazing

Winter offers the perfect opportunity to explore the night sky with its long nights, clear skies, and shifting seasonal constellations. Join us at Hudson Crossing Park for a guided stargazing experience on or near the night of the new moon, when the skies are at their darkest and the stars shine brightest.

Participants can enjoy warming up by the fire pit, thoughtfully located behind the park pavilion to reduce light pollution, while sipping on complimentary hot cider or cocoa. Afterward, venture back out to the HCP field for more magical moments under the stars.

Group size limited to 25 per excursion.
